MECT (Mechatronics Technology Japan) Guide

MECT (Mechatronics Technology Japan) is one of Central Japan's largest machine tool and factory automation shows, held in odd years at Port Messe Nagoya.
Because it takes place in the heart of Japan's manufacturing belt, it is known as a practical, lively show.
This guide outlines the next edition, MECT2027, what makes MECT distinctive, and how to get the most out of a visit.

Checked against the official MECT website on October 14, 2026. Exhibitors, booth layout and side programs for MECT2027 have not yet been announced and are therefore not listed here; this page will be updated after the official release.

What Makes MECT Distinctive

  • Held in Central Japan — the region is home to the automotive industry and a dense cluster of manufacturers, so visitors are hands-on practitioners and the show works well for concrete consultations and deals.
  • Plenty of live demos — makers run real machines and demonstrate machining, a rare chance to see CNC automatic lathes in action up close.
  • Integration with FA and automation — beyond stand-alone machine tools, many exhibits cover robots and automation systems for whole-factory efficiency.

Areas to Watch

For CNC automatic lathe buyers, the themes to watch are process integration through multitasking, new technology for difficult materials and chip control, and automation / labor-saving solutions.
With the automotive industry concentrated in the region, practical proposals for volume production and labor saving tend to be strong.
At the booths of Swiss-type specialists, look for live demonstrations of slender, high-precision parts.

Touring Efficiently

The approach is the same as for JIMTOF: check the exhibitor list in advance, shortlist the makers and technologies you want to see, plan your route on the hall map, and bring comfortable shoes, business cards and something to take notes with.

At each booth, use your own parts (ideally drawings) to ask whether they can be machined, which model suits them, how difficult materials and unattended operation are handled, and what support is available.
Schedule the live demos you care about into your plan. The "purpose and plan", "what to bring" and "what to ask" sections of our JIMTOF2026 Guide apply directly.

The Central Japan Advantage

The Chubu region around Nagoya is one of Japan's largest manufacturing clusters — automotive, precision parts, machine tools and countless job shops.
That gives MECT its character: visitors are mostly people who machine parts themselves, and booth conversations are concrete and practical.
Being able to discuss a real problem — "this material in volume", "stabilizing this tolerance" — with engineers on the spot is MECT's particular value, and local shops can gather information without long travel.

FAQ

Q. How does MECT differ from JIMTOF?
A. JIMTOF is an international fair in Tokyo in even years; MECT is a specialized show in Nagoya in odd years. Following both keeps you current.

Q. When is the next MECT?
A. MECT2027 is scheduled for October 20–23, 2027 at Port Messe Nagoya (official announcement as of October 14, 2026). Exhibitor details will follow on the official site.

Q. Who is MECT for?
A. Primarily manufacturers in Central Japan who want practical consultations and negotiations; the live demos also make it a good show for general information gathering.
